What’s the difference between Dynamic Hypnotherapy and Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

August 12, 2025

If you’re on the hunt for the right fit support for your healing journey, I know it can feel like a real minefield — I’ve been there. There are so many different directories, practitioners and modalities, it can feel quite overwhelming. So, I started to think I’ll write a blog about the differences between the way I practice with hypnotherapy – ‘Advanced Dynamic Hypnotherapy’ – vs. one of the most popular modalities, which is ‘Solution Focused Hypnotherapy’.

But I’ll be totally honest with you — I didn’t train in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, so I can only give you the broadest idea of it. In general, it’s a goal-oriented approach that focuses on building solutions and future outcomes, rather than exploring the deeper roots of problems. I qualified in Advanced Dynamic Hypnotherapy, which takes a more exploratory, healing-in-hypnosis route, so I can really only speak in depth about that.

In the broadest sense, I would describe the Dynamic Hypnotherapy I practice with as: healing therapy in hypnosis. I aim to get to the root of what’s creating issues for you, and the type of hypnotherapy I use lends itself to that in a number of ways, as described below.

So what does healing in hypnosis mean in practice?

Inner Child Connection work: This involves using hypnosis to go and meet with a younger version of you, perhaps at an age where some healing needs to occur or there is a message you need to receive. We may go to a time where there may have been fear, worry, or other emotions that continue to weigh you down and hold you back in your current life. Through this connection work, we make time and space to hear, feel, validate and hold her. The intention is to begin building a deep and ongoing relationship with your inner child.

Why Inner Child Connection Work?

Because it’s that inner child part of you who really needs to be able to trust you — who requires you to show up for her consistently by acting in honour of yourself. If we can find out what’s on the heart of your inner child, then you can begin to step up in new ways for yourself.

Let’s say, for example, we visit a version of your inner child who felt ashamed for how she looked because of an event that happened in her life, and this event has created a belief in your mind that in order to keep safe, you must go unnoticed. This belief then means you have become very adept at keeping yourself small and not going for opportunities. Imagine being able to let that part of you know that you’re not going to shame her, you’re going to keep her safe, and incrementally show her a new way?

Sounds healing, right?

Quantum leaping and timeline therapy: This hypnosis taps into your wildest imagination. You travel to a future where your soul is unattached to stories and narratives that keep you held back in this life. You go there, you fully FEEL what it is to be there, you have the opportunity to have conversations with parts of yourself you didn’t know existed, to give yourself permission to let go of the old and invite in the new for your expansion.

Sounds exciting, right?

Reframing and regression: This allows us to go deep and do ‘parts work’. In this space we can negotiate with your different ‘parts’ — for example, the part of your subconscious mind that knows most about guilt, shame, overwhelm, addiction, sadness, anxiety, and so on. It also allows you to visit the version of you who understood, at the time, that a particular pattern of behaviour was necessary to keep you safe.

This part of the work is so powerful because it allows your internal parts to come together to start working in more harmony — to understand how they are trying to support you in your life, to hold space for them, but also to encourage them to see a better way for you. This is about rewriting outdated and unhelpful subconscious scripts and narratives that are no longer serving you.

Sounds peace-inducing, right?

Lots of other really cool stuff: Dynamic Hypnotherapy enables me to practice so many awesome techniques such as cord cutting, fantasy therapy allowing you to receive inner wisdom, let go of old beliefs, unblock what feels stuck, release feelings, and more…

The hypnosis I practice is dynamic — I work in an organic way to support my client, so it looks like lots of different and equally cool and beautiful stuff. And this is just the hypnotherapy work, without the coaching and somatic tools we use in session together too.

I really love how I practice hypnotherapy — it’s personally helped me massively on my journey and so I’m delighted to offer it out into the world to hold and help other women to heal.

I love chatting all things hypnotherapy and coaching. Interested in how it can support your journey? Book a free discovery call today.
